Composition Assignment #2

In this assignment, we were supposed to look for 5 more elements of photography while taking our pictures. These 5 included, balance, color, perspective, space, and framing. Balance included being able to take an equally set picture. Color meant using this element to really bring out a certain part of a picture. Perspective pictures are taken from a different point of view. Space meant having a part of your picture isolated from it's surroundings, and framing meant putting something through a frame to give it a new look.

My balance photo was taken of a car tire. This showed balance because it is symmetrical and gives the person whose observing the photo a feeling that the amount of space free is equal. My color photo was taken of a a drinking fountain which I added color to in photoshop. I thought this was a good idea because it really brought out the water and showed texture and shape of the water. My perspective photo was me peering into a recycling bin. This showed perspective because it was me looking down on the bottles, instead of just taking a straight on shot. My space photo was of a Tigers symbol, and this shows space because it's isolated from everything else and it's also set against a dark blue background. My framing photo is taken out a window which frames the image.

From this project I learned how to apply these 5 tools of photography to my photos. I found that framing pictures are very easy to do, and that it really brings out the overall image in the picture. It can also be very useful when taking a picture of a place or setting. I think color was also very interesting, because it was cool that I had the option to take a picture of something clear and add color to it in photoshop. I think this project was very useful because I now have 11 different elements of photography in my back pocket, that I can use and apply to my work at any time.
